Nationality, Citizenship and The Kingdom

Lately, I have been pondering anew BYNC2015my nationality, citizenship and Kingdom affiliation.  Most would consider me an American citizen, of American descent, however, I do not.  Yes, I was born here, to American citizens who come from families that arrived on this shore in the 1640s and 1740s, but I no longer consider this my home, or my nation.

In the very late 1980’s and early 1990’s I served in the US Army and was deployed both to Korea and Saudi Arabia/Iraq.  I had previously lived for six years on the missionfield in Colombia, South America with my bush pilot father and midwife mother.  The combination of the two experiences gave me a very different picture of the United States than the average nationalist.  I saw things from an external vantage point that caused the patriotic patina to begin wearing off.

While I still appreciate this country and the blessings it affords, I have come to the very real conclusion that this is not my home.  Christendom teaches rightly that we are citizens of a higher Kingdom and for years I sought to understand this, being forced to wait for something on the other side of the veil of death.  Once I began to search the Scriptures from an Hebraic perspective, I learned several very important things:

  • The Kingdom, to which Yeshua referred, is not some other-worldly, post Judgment/resurrection, ethereal heavenlies entity, though its fullness will be manifest after the final Judgment.  Rather, The Kingdom is the much prophesied restoration of the tent of David with Him, the Son of David, seated on the throne, and that prior to Judgment Day.
  • Being ‘grafted in,’ does not make me part of something other than Israel (the Church?), rather, it makes me part of Israel.  (The Church hasn’t replaced Israel, rather, when Scripture is rightly understood, those coming to faith in Messiah are grafted into Israel.)
  • Israel is composed of two distinct parts that are ‘echad,’ unified:  The House of Israel and the House of Judah, the Northern and Southern Kingdoms, respectively, each with its own destiny/path toward the final restored Tent of David.

Resurrection song?

I was reading Psalm 98 and wondering if this was sung by angels at Messiah’s resurrection.

Twice the word ‘Yeshua’ is used and the direct reference has to do with securing the victory of mercy and truth toward the house of Israel.  Matthew 15:24 comes to mind as well as Romans 8:22-23…  I was also reading in Acts this evening and looked into the three or four references where Yeshua is referred to as the Righteous One…  See Ps. 98:2.

The Psalm, as prophecy, is incomplete as He has not yet come to judge (rule) with equity.  See Isaiah 2:3-5, Ez. 37:24-28, Psalm 2, etc…

What a rich nine verses.

Selah.

Two Types of Watchmen…

Currently, I am reading Christians & Jews, The Two Faces of Israel, by Stephen J. Spykerman.  A broader review of this book will be forthcoming, however, I wanted to share a little nugget from pages 25-28.

51inNowprDL._SX321_BO1,204,203,200_Spykerman points out that there are two types of ‘watchmen.’  Now, like me, you are probably familiar with the watchman who stands upon the walls of Jerusalem and watches, prays, etc.  We would look to Isaiah 62:6-7,

On your walls, O Jerusalem, I have appointed watchmen; All day and all night they will never keep silent.
You who remind the Lord, take no rest for yourselves; And give Him no rest until He establishes, And makes Jerusalem a praise in the earth.

And, indeed, today there are continual prayer vigils and vocal watchmen concerning Israel and more specifically, Jerusalem.  Interestingly, Spykerman points out another type of watchman that paints a fascinating picture in our time! Continue reading “Two Types of Watchmen…”

There Shall Be Showers of Blessing… Really?!?

A dear friend of mine was recently humming a tune.  I queried, “What are you singing?” to which they replied, “Showers of Blessings.”

Hmmmm…  Immediately, I had questions running through my head.  Not that I haven’t sung the hymn many times, but my perspective of hymnody has changed pretty radically over the last few years.  The post on Beulah Land, just a few days ago, should be evidence enough.

Here are the  lyrics to There Shall Be Showers of Blessings,

  1. There shall be showers of blessing:
    This is the promise of love;
    There shall be seasons refreshing,
    Sent from the Savior above.

    • Refrain:
      Showers of blessing,
      Showers of blessing we need:
      Mercy-drops round us are falling,
      But for the showers we plead.
  2. There shall be showers of blessing,
    Precious reviving again;
    Over the hills and the valleys,
    Sound of abundance of rain.
  3. There shall be showers of blessing;
    Send them upon us, O Lord;
    Grant to us now a refreshing,
    Come, and now honor Thy Word. Continue reading “There Shall Be Showers of Blessing… Really?!?”

“IT IS MY BROTHERS WHOM I AM SEEKING”

Following is a terrific paper with lots of Scripture detailing the vision of Ephraim from a Hebraic perspective from an author IN the Land.

ranger6I do not yet know exactly where/how Abba is leading in this time, but feel so drawn to take a stand at this point for Ephraim and his return to the Land.  Personally, my attitude of late is almost a swashbuckling swagger in terms of bringing Ephraim back together and taking a stand.  It feels much like my warrior Airborne Ranger days when we suited up to head into the bush for a mission.  My attitude is definitely that of a warrior.

For months I have been getting into shape and am back to military weight and nearly the same physique, though 25 years older than my heyday.  But the attitude has come back.  I am so ready to take a stand…  not in a braggadocios way, but simply a ‘the time is NOW!’ stand.  I know not what lies ahead, but Abba has definitely been awakening the warrior and molding me.  Please pray for wisdom, discernment and patience.  I am ready to hit the trail.  (My Sunday School class got some yesterday…  listen in!)  No prisoners!  The intensity is way up!

This upcoming Congress is so at the center of my scope.  It is the focus of my prayers, action and attitude.  We have a mission…  I can’t explain it, but feel this call.  May Abba lead and guide!!

Here is the article from Etz B’ney Yosef,  ‘The Tree of Joseph.’

“IT IS MY BROTHERS WHOM I AM SEEKING”
The Lost Sheep of the House of Israel are Returning Home
We, the Jewish Nation that lives in Israel, have a surprise coming. Individuals from all
over the world, in growing numbers, are waking up to the possibility that they might
belong to the People of Israel. Are they Jews? Are they descendants of Jews? The
answer is “not necessarily”. How is it, then, that they assume some kind of relatedness to
the People of Israel? Well, these individuals view themselves as belonging to that part of
the Nation of Israel which has assimilated, and supposedly has been lost among the
nations of the world for thousands of years. That, however, will not always be the case… Continue reading ““IT IS MY BROTHERS WHOM I AM SEEKING””

A Matter of the Heart!!

Lately, I have been marking instances of ‘heart’ in the Tanakh, or ‘old’ Testament.  My specific reason is that on so many occasions, in conversations with others regarding the importance of Torah in our day, I am told that it is written on our hearts by the New Covenant, therefore, we do not have to worry about or try to keep it.

The very root of that thought is contrary to the New Covenant, so we need to demonstrate briefly that the New Covenant is not yet fulfilled before addressing the ‘heart’ of the matter.  The New Covenant says,

31 “The days are coming,” declares the Lord,
    “when I will make a new covenant
with the people of Israel
    and with the people of Judah.
32 It will not be like the covenant
    I made with their ancestors
when I took them by the hand
    to lead them out of Egypt,
because they broke my covenant,
    though I was a husband to[a] them,[b]
declares the Lord.
33 “This is the covenant I will make with the people of Israel
    after that time,” declares the Lord.
I will put my law (Torah) in their minds
    and write it on their hearts. Continue reading “A Matter of the Heart!!”
