The single word that disassembles MUCH Christian doctrine…

One Hebrew word, used 438 times in theIsaiah 40 8 flowers ‘old testament,’ completely disassembles a wide swath of Christian doctrine.  Simply taking the time to understand a single word will peel the mask off of much man-made tradition and false doctrines derived from contextually ignorant theology.  Even a layman with a fifth grade education can study and understand one simple word then use it as a scalpel to dissect truth from tradition.

Are you willing to take the plunge?  Will you dare to see what Scripture says v. ivory tower theonastics?  (Okay, I made that word up.  It comes from theological gymnastics, or contortionism to arrive at a point wholly disconnected from Scripture while seemingly having some validity.)

Buckle your seat belt!

H5769       עלם / עולם     ‛ôlâm
BDB Definition:
1) long duration, antiquity, futurity, for ever, ever, everlasting, evermore, perpetual, old, ancient, world
1a) ancient time, long time (of past)
1b) (of future)
1b1) for ever, always
1b2) continuous existence, perpetual
1b3) everlasting, indefinite or unending future, eternity

Let’s consider a few uses that Christendom agrees with:

Isaiah 40:8 The grass withers, the flower fades,
But the word of our God stands forever עולם .

Perpetual, everlasting Word!  Right?  The everlasting, unchanging, infallible Word of our God that stands forever!!

Genesis 9:11 I establish My covenant with you; and all flesh shall never again be cut off by the water of the flood, neither shall there again be a flood to destroy the earth.” 12 God said, “This is the sign of the covenant which I am making between Me and you and every living creature that is with you, for [a]all successive (everlasting: עולם ) generations; 13 I set My bow in the cloud, and it shall be for a sign of a covenant between Me and the earth. 14 It shall come about, when I bring a cloud over the earth, that the bow will be seen in the cloud, 15 and I will remember My covenant, which is between Me and you and every living creature of all flesh; and never again shall the water become a flood to destroy all flesh. 16 When the bow is in the cloud, then I will look upon it, to remember the everlasting עולם covenant between God and every living creature of all flesh that is on the earth.”

The rainbow, which we have talked about before, is a well known ‘forever עולם covenant‘ in Christendom.  God will NEVER again flood the whole earth!! NEVER!!  Olam!!  The rainbow also stands as a witness against Christian dogma.

Here is another of the hundreds of ‘olam’ uses that Christendom would agree with, though they would try to ignore, skip or explain away the middle verse 😉 .

“Lift up your eyes to the sky,
Then look to the earth beneath;
For the sky will vanish like smoke,
And the earth will wear out like a garment
And its inhabitants will die [a]in like manner;
But My salvation (yeshua : ישׁוּעה ) will be forever עולם ,
And My righteousness will not [b]wane.
“Listen to Me, you who know righteousness,
A people in whose heart is My law ( torah : תּורה );
Do not fear the reproach of man,
Nor be dismayed at their revilings.
“For the moth will eat them like a garment,
And the grub will eat them like wool.
But My righteousness will be forever עולם ,
And My salvation (yeshua : ישׁוּעה ) to all generations.”

How about some of the olam (עולם) uses that Christendom completely ignores or radically disobeys while trumpeting ‘the Word of our God stands forever!’  (These are a few of the verses that not only demonstrate with clarity the inconsistency of Christian hermeneutics, but literally stick a dagger in many doctrines.

Exodus 12:14 ‘Now this day will be a memorial to you, and you shall celebrate it as a feast to the Lord; throughout your generations you are to celebrate it as [a]a permanent עולם ordinance. 15 Seven days you shall eat unleavened bread, but on the first day you shall [b]remove leaven from your houses; for whoever eats anything leavened from the first day until the seventh day, that [c]person shall be cut off from Israel. 16 On the first day you shall have a holy assembly, and another holy assembly on the seventh day; no work at all shall be done on them, except what must be eaten [d]by every person, that alone may be [e]prepared by you. 17 You shall also observe the Feast of Unleavened Bread, for on this very day I brought your hosts out of the land of Egypt; therefore you shall observe this day throughout your generations as a [f]permanent עולם ordinance.

Or…

Exodus 31:https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Exodus+31%3A16-17&version=NASB16 So the sons of Israel shall observe the sabbath, to [a]celebrate the sabbath throughout their generations as a perpetual עולם covenant.’ 17 It is a sign between Me and the sons of Israel forever; for in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, but on the seventh day He ceased from labor, and was refreshed.”

Or…

Regarding the Feasts of the Lord, Leviticus 23 uses עולם in verses 14, 21, 31, and 41 effectively destroying the ‘we don’t have to do those anymore argument.

Or…

Psalm 119 uses  multiple times in reference to the Torah, statutes, judgments and precepts.  The most clear is,

Psalm 119:44 So I will keep Your law (torah) continually,
Forever עולם and ever.

Or…

How many places is the phrase ‘everlasting covenant’ used to refer to the Torah and to the agreement with Israel which demands the everlasting existence of Israel and Judah in order to be fulfilled?  Referring to the house of Israel and the house of Judah, עולם  comes up FIVE times…

Ezekiel 37:24 “My servant David will be king over them, and they will all have one shepherd; and they will walk in My ordinances and keep My statutes and observe them. 25 They will live on the land that I gave to Jacob My servant, in which your fathers lived; and they will live on it, they, and their sons and their sons’ sons, forever עולם; and David My servant will be their prince עולם forever. 26 I will make a covenant of peace with them; it will be an everlasting עולם covenant with them. And I will [a]place them and multiply them, and will set My sanctuary in their midst עולם forever. 27 My dwelling place also will be with them; and I will be their God, and they will be My people. 28 And the nations will know that I am the Lord who sanctifies Israel, when My sanctuary is in their midst forever עולם .”’”

These are death dealing daggers that Christian theology can’t dodge!  That is why they MUST ignore them or create ‘theonastic’ work-arounds from whole cloth.

The simple solution, which requires that we each humble ourselves and be willing to put our agendas and paradigms aside is to ‘ask for the עולם paths!’

Jeremiah 6:16 Thus says the Lord,
“Stand by the ways and see and ask for the ancient עולם paths,
Where the good way is, and walk in it;
And you will find rest for your souls.
But they said, ‘We will not walk in it.’
17 “And I set watchmen over you, saying,
‘Listen to the sound of the trumpet!’
But they said, ‘We will not listen.’
18 “Therefore hear, O nations,
And know, O congregation, what is among them.
19 “Hear, O earth: behold, I am bringing disaster on this people,
The fruit of their [a]plans,
Because they have not listened to My words,
And as for My law (torah), they have rejected it also.

[An interesting aside:  ‘Ancient’ in v. 16 could, and maybe should, properly be translated as ‘everlasting paths,’ as in ‘everlasting covenant.’]

Got Torah?  (The everlasting path!)
