Update on Kelly’s tallit…

Ms. Anita sent me a few more pics of the progress on Kelly’s handwoven non-traditional tallit.  I spoke with Anita last night, and we shared a few thoughts from the Torah portion.  Kelly.clothpathMy questions to Anita had to do with all of the woven garments the High Priest and priests wore.  One point I specifically remembering her making is how incredibly difficult it is to scour the linen to remove the tannic acid.    To scour it, one must have a huge abundance of water.   Next, bleaching the naturally brown fiber requires lye from wood ash or a lot of sunshine.  Imagine, in the desert, our Father commands white linen garments knowing the huge work load…  and knowing that He would have to provide the water.  That Rock must have been a gusher!!  😉

Kelly3.22In talking about Kelly’s tallit, she mentioned how much extra time it took to constantly change thread color.  Wow.  I had not even thought about that…  So little we know and understand about ancient technologies and art….  Walmart might be cheap, but it has no character compared to something handmade.

Kelly3.24If you would like to contact Anita for a one-of-a-kind garment, tallit or challah cover, her contact info is in the first post I did about her.

Can’t wait to hold the finished product!!  It is beautiful!

Shavua tov!!
