Does Scripture have to say anything about the Creator’s thoughts on time and seasons? When does HE think the year begins?
We could spend a good bit of time digging out the details, but a simple reading of Scripture would demonstrate that tonight is NOT HIS plan…
14 Then God said, “Let there be [a]lights in the [b]expanse of the heavens to separate the day from the night, and let them be for signs and for seasons and for days and years; 15 and let them be for [c]lights in the [d]expanse of the heavens to give light on the earth”; and it was so. Genesis 1:14-15
Later, our Father tells us exactly how to ‘read’/understand what season and what month are the beginning of a year…
Now the Lord said to Moses and Aaron in the land of [a]Egypt, 2 “This month shall be the beginning of months for you; it is to be the first month of the year to you. 3 Speak to all the congregation of Israel, saying, ‘On the tenth of this month they are each one to take a [b]lamb for themselves, according to their fathers’ households, a [c]lamb for [d]each household. (Passover)… Exodus 12:1-3
And, further connections/confirmation,
‘These are the appointed times of the Lord, holy convocations which you shall proclaim at the times appointed for them. 5 In the first month, on the fourteenth day of the month [a]at twilight is the Lord’s Passover. Lev. 23:4-5
Now, there are a number of different places we can go in Scripture to understand exactly how to calculate the calendar… That is interesting, but beyond the simple scope of this post.
This post is to ask, Whose calendar are we celebrating?
[If you want more info on exactly where in Scripture we are given details on how to calculate the calendar, 119 has an excellent video.]
I pray each of us has a happy and shalom filled tomorrow, but it has nothing to do with a new year…. at least according to Scripture.
