A few more ‘Memra’ verses in this portion….

Yesterday, I posted a Scripture image from my YouVersion account demonstrating an example of the use of ‘Memra’ from Deuteronomy.  We have argued on this blog before for the presence of Yeshua in the Torah, one example of which is the ‘Memra.’  Read up on that to better understand the next few verses.

Certainly, Yeshua, the Memra, stood on Mt. Sinai!

Well, here are a few more ‘Memra’ verses from this portion that are fascinating and again compel us to ask, “When Yeshua (Jesus) says, ‘If you love me, then keep my commandments,’ what are his commandments?”  (Answer to the question at the end of the post…)

Picking up with yesterday’s verses, these almost have a story line as they are interspersed through Deuteronomy 26-28,

Deu. 26:16 “This day the Lord your God commands you to do these statutes and ordinances. You shall therefore be careful to do them with all your heart and with all your soul. 17 You have today declared the Memra de Yeya to be your God, and thatyou would walk in His ways and keep His statutes, His commandments and His ordinances, and listen to His voice.

Deu 27:10 You shall therefore obey the Memra your God, and do His commandments and His statutes which I command you today.”

Deu 28:1-2 “Now it shall be, if you diligently [a]obey the Memra your God, being careful to do all His commandments which I command you today, the Lord your God will set you high above all the nations of the earth. All these blessings will come upon you and overtake you if you [b]obey the Memra your God:

Deu 28:15 “But it shall come about, if you do not [a]obey the Memra your God, to observe to do all His commandments and His statutes with which I charge you today, that all these curses will come upon you and overtake you:

Deu 28:45 “So all these curses shall come on you and pursue you and overtake you until you are destroyed, because you would not [a]obey the Memra your God by keeping His commandments and His statutes which He commanded you.

Deu 28:62 Then you shall be left few in number, whereas you were as numerous as the stars of heaven, because you did not [a]obey the Memra your God.

Fascinating…  and, as I said, a story line!

So, What does Yeshua (Jesus) mean by ‘My commandments’ if He is the Word or, in Aramaic, the ‘Memra?’  It can only mean that we (Jews and non-Jews, alike) are to be keeping all of the Torah.  One Torah for all people.  See kol basar!

  1. Just reading Psalm 107 and in v 20 it says ‘He sent His Davar (word), and healed them, and delivered them from their destructions.’ I find it so lovely how He was referenced as the Word and then John introduces Him as the Word made flesh and in Revelations He returns to be called ‘the Word/Davar’
