Potiphar’s wife and Yeshua…

Several months ago I wrote and posted a series of articles considering the prophetic significance of Joseph’s life as a picture of Messiah Yeshua.  They can be found here:  Jesus / Yeshua as Pictured in Joseph.  Part 1.  Part 2Part 3.

Occasionally, another connection will bubble to the surface and I’ll add it to my list, but joseph_resistrecently I had one interesting enough to make a quick post.

Joseph is sold to Potiphar and becomes the head servant.  Potiphar’s wife decides to use him for her pleasure and he escapes without his clothes/garments.  Reading something else recently, as I thought about this, led led me to wonder if this is a picture of the ‘woman who rides the beast’ stripping Yeshua of His identity when ‘He got to Rome.’

It is interesting to note that the very Hebrew/Jewish Yeshua was converted to a Gentile Jesus in Rome by the stripping of His identity and He was ‘held in prison’ for more than a thousand years.  Then, He began His ascension in the eyes of the nations at/near the time of the Reformation, but His true identity, the Jewish Messiah Yeshua is only now really becoming widely known!

Now, this isn’t to say there aren’t those who have known His true identity all along, certainly, there were a few around Joseph that had a clue, as well.  But generally speaking, on a broad scale, nobody knew Joseph was Hebrew, even after He was the Prince of Egypt in the second or third year of the famine.  It was only then that Judah and his brothers learned as well as most of Pharaoh’s household.

More interesting parallels.  As individual pieces, the details of the Joseph story are not so compelling, however in toto, they are a startlingly clear picture of Yeshua losing His identity and going into the nations before His great revealing to Judah.

Simply fascinating.

    1. Initially thought of her doing that, then started to wonder if the next several steps in Joseph’s life (prison and then a ‘slow’ elevation) had parallels in the historical spread of the Gospel…

Pretty sure no clear divisions can be drawn, but there is a seeming process for Joseph, just as there was for Jesus…

      Interesting.

  1. This is something that never occurred to me. Thanks for pointing it out! I think you’re right on about Yeshua/Jesus losing His identity. Pardon the shameless plugging of my own blog, but over the weekend I posted a similar viewpoint taken from John 11:53-54 –
Then, from that day on, they plotted to put Him to death. Therefore Jesus no longer walked openly among the Jews, but went from there into the country near the wilderness, to a city called Ephraim, and there remained with His disciples. (John 11:53, 54 NKJV)
This seemingly insignificant detail of Yeshua staying in Ephraim for a time seems to be a prophetic marker that His identity would be among the goyim for a while before He returned to Judah. That seems to fit with what you’ve uncovered (no pun intended) about Joseph’s loss of his garment.
