Have you ever written a blank check? Most of us have at one point or another, but always with a general idea what the amount would be when whoever we gave it to filled it in.
Not long ago I wrote a blank check with NO IDEA how much it would cost. I did it in complete faith that the One to Whom I wrote the check would fill it out as He saw fit without overcharging me.
Yep, scary stuff, but I said, “Father, any price. I’m willing to pay any price, just lead me to fullness of truth.”
I should have expected it, but He basically asks for everything! Some years ago I wrote a similar check to the Father and it cost us some family, many friends, income, and reputation. And, it was a time in the wilderness… Just us and Him.
But, oh the joy. The peace. The golden nuggets of truth, straight from his Word. Things we had never seen before. Connections and insights that made my spirit soar!
Recently, like maybe a year ago, I again wrote the father that blank check. Any price. Use me. I’m willing to follow.
He waited. He didn’t cash it for a while. I wasn’t holding my breath or even worried about it. He is a good King and gentle.
He did cash it though, and again, the personal price has been high. The fire has been refining and the vistas into His Word and how He works have been, at times, breathtaking. The wilderness, though a bit lonely at points, has begun to bloom and again, in the midst of personal discomfort and even persecution, the joy has been wonderful and His presence has been palpable.
Few, very few, ever walk this path. Most are content to graze in the common fields. They dare not wander from the safety of the flock and follow the Shepherd into the great unknown.
Me, I want the adventure. I want truth. I want the heart of my King! And, I’m willing to pay any price.
You?
I hear you Pete! For the past almost three years Abba has been teaching me about walking in faith. It’s sometimes very difficult. The verse that has been coming up lately and often is Heb 11:6 “And without faith it is impossible to please Him….” I don’t know if or think I’m at the point of writing blank checks but hope I’m moving in that direction. I too want to experience the adventure without fear or anxiety. Thank you for the inspiration and encouragement!
