The Gospel I never preached…

I spent more than 10 years in the pulpit and I am realizing I never really preached the Gospel.  Oh, I taught the death, burial and resurrection of the Messiah, but that is preacher silhouettenot the Gospel.  Surprised?

Rom. 10:16 But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Isaiah saith, Lord, who hath believed our report?

Multiple Scriptures testify to the fact that the Gospel existed before the coming of the expected Messiah.

Gal. 3:8 And the scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the heathen through faith, preached before the gospel unto Abraham, saying, In thee shall all nations be blessed.

So then they which be of faith are blessed with faithful Abraham.

And, from Hebrews,

Heb. 4:2 For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it.

We also have multiple references of Yeshua preaching the Gospel of the Kingdom before His death….  Here is one of the above linked verses,

Mark 1:14 Now after that John was put in prison, Yeshua came into Galilee, preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God,

15 And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel.

Clearly, there is much to dig into here.

Here are a few questions to ponder:

  • Are there different Gospels, or is there one everlasting Gospel?
  • What is the Gospel of the Kingdom?  Is it other than, or maybe more than simply death, burial and resurrection?
  • Repent and believe the Gospel?  Obey the Gospel?  Repent to and obey what??
  • What is the Hebraic understanding of ‘faith’ and ‘believing?’  Is that different than the western Greek mindset we were raised with?
  • Is the Kingdom a literal/physical or figurative/spiritual Kingdom?  How does Scripture overwhelmingly portray the Kingdom?

I don’t really have the time to write an extensive post detailing all the parts of the answers to these questions, but they are all addressed at points on this blog.

I will say this:  Until I came to Torah and understood what it means to restore the Kingdom, I did not understand nor was I able to rightly preach the Gospel.  In a nutshell, here is the Gospel:

God’s plan, from the beginning of Creation, was a nation of priests who would be obedient to His instructions (Torah) in righteousness.  Abraham believed and obeyed (Gen. 26:5), while his descendants disobeyed in unbelief.  This resulted in the divorce of the house of Israel, while the house of Judah, even though disobedient, was shown mercy that the Messiah might come and God’s promise of always having a people would be fulfilled.  The call of the Messiah was to faith and repentant obedience to God’s Torah, His everlasting instructions in righteousness.

Today, in the final stages of His redemption, as prophesied, the Gospel of repentance and obedience to be restored to YHVH is being preached to the four corners of the earth and millions are awakening from divinely induced slumber to become a mighty nation that walks as He commanded, leaving the pagan traditions of men behind and being grafted back into the olive tree.

Rev. 14:12 Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Yeshua.

Please note:  TWO marks identify who the saints are.  And, it doesn’t say “faith IN Yeshua,” it says “faith OF Yeshua.”  This two part theme is repeated explicitly several times in the book of Revelation and implied a thousand times in Scripture.

Got Torah?  (It is a prerequisite for the Kingdom.  Ez. 37:24-28; Isaiah 2:1-5 (3); etc…)

  1. Great article. Great testimony. I said to my wife, “There are not many former pastors who ‘cross-over’. It is tough.” That may be more antidoteal than fact but it must be tough to break away from all that ‘seminary’ thinking (I am thinking;-) Something as simple as Y’shua saying, “Follow Me” takes on new meaning.

  2. intellectual agreement to an idea is not character commitment to the Resurrected King, or compliance to the Rules required to be an Heir of the Kingdom.

People spend WAY more time enthusiastically applauding an idea than they do researching and applying it.

The first measure of God’s love is ALWAYS correction. If you can’t and won’t receive that measure, you cannot receive any other measure.

the first measure of His anger is the cessation of daily correction.

  3. Similar experience for me. Just kept pushing back the questions till they just started to bubble over. I am stuck on the verse where Christ prayed that we would be one with the Father as he was one and that was for “that day”. Come to find out that the Bible is a story of genetics. Very interesting that the expression of certain genes can be suppressed or encouraged. Kinda fits Paul’s letters. Have since become very involved with the settlers of Judea and Samaria. What a joy!

    1. I have no idea what you are talking about genes and genetics. I do know though that a large part of what Y’shua was teaching in John 17 especially was the Name of the Father to the disciples. Something missing from where most of us here have journed from. Let us ‘breathe’ the Name of our Creator YAHWEH the giver of breath and life😊🙏 Blessings.

  4. So true, I know there are more people out there that believe and know the true gospel but we are outnumbered by soul count, but we have our Messiah who gave us Matthew 5:17-21, and so much more in scripture that He is the TORAH become flesh. So to know YAHUSHUA is to obey HIS (our) Heavenly FATHERS Commandments, statutes and judgements.

  5. Wow you people r hilarious. You have no background in any religious studies and are leading many astray. There’s no faith IN Yeshua? R u joking? Whoever beleive me shall not perish. The ONLY way to the Father is through ME. You have missed the complete point. The coming, suffering and resurrection of Christ IS the whole culminating point to whcib all feasts, all rituals ,all events were done for. Jonah staying 3 days in the whale, Abraham asked to sacrifice his son (the death of the son of God,for he so loves the world that he sent his only son). What you are teaching is a new religion. I agree to stay away from pagan traditions but what you r preaching is straight demonic. It is denying the essence of Christ and HIS role in our salvation. Just like Muhammad and the devil taht appeared to him as Gabriel also did by accepting that Christ was a prophet but denies his deity, his Crucifixion and his resurrection. You are totally misguided.

    1. Cathy,

      Nice to meet you, too!

Judging from your comment you didn’t take the time to actually read/research on my blog.

You have no background in any religious studies

The ‘About Us’ page clearly relates that I have a four year seminary degree as well as ten years in the pulpit of a conservative mainline denomination. That degree included a couple years of Greek and one of Hebrew.

      There’s no faith IN Yeshua?

The verse I quoted, as well as several others in Revelation state ‘of.’ Check the Greek or even most English translations. Within the context of this post, did Abraham have faith IN Yeshua or the faith OF Yeshua?? Hmmmm… Made you think!

As to the feasts, ‘rituals’ etc.. While they do point to the Messiah, HE clearly said,

17 “Do NOT think that I came to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I DID NOT COME TO ABOLISH but to fulfill. 18 For truly I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not [a]the smallest letter or stroke shall pass from the Law until all is accomplished. 19 Whoever then annuls one of the least of these commandments, and teaches [b]others to do the same, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but whoever [c]keeps and teaches them, he shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.

Yeshua taught obedience to the Father’s ways. He did NOT abolish, annul, do away with or any other man made nonsense. The Torah stands today! I cover this over and over on this blog. Scripture speaks with one voice, the Torah is the path of righteousness. You may want to look into it…

As to the deity of Yeshua, you need to spend more time on here… Start on the Apologetics page.

May you find the fullness of Truth.

      Blessings.

  6. I love reading your articles. Lots of great insights and thinking. I was struck by a question you asked “Are there different Gospels, or is there one everlasting Gospel?” I read the Revelation reference — but am struck with Yeshua’s reference in John 11 vs ” 21 Martha, then, said to יהושע, “Master, if You had been here, my brother would not have died. 22 “But even now I know that whatever You might ask of Elohim, Elohim shall give You.” 23 יהושע said to her, “Your brother shall rise again.” 24 Martha said to Him, “I know that he shall rise again in the resurrection at the last day.” 25 יהושע said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he dies, he shall live. 26 “And everyone that is living and believing in Me shall never die at all. Do you believe this?”
So the death, burial and resurrection of Messiah is a part of the Gospel. Is it not?

    1. It is. The curious point that you make supporting my post that never noticed before is that Martha already knows of the resurrection and the implied future restored Kingdom without Messiah saying anything. I.e., He only identifies Himself as the long expected One that Abraham already believed AFTER she acknowledges the resurrection.

The everlasting Gospel us about a Kingdom with the Messiah’s death, burial and resurrection being just a part.

Thanks for adding these verses to the discussion.

      Blessings.
