Prophesying to the Dry Bones…

Ez. 37 The hand of the Lord was upon me, and He brought me out ^[a]by the Spirit of the Lord and set me down in the middle of the valley; and it was full of bones. ² He caused me to pass among them round about, and behold, there were very many on the surface of the valley; and lo, they were very dry. ³ He said to me, “Son of man, can these bones live?” And I answered, “O Lord ^[b]God, You know.” ⁴ Again He said to me, “Prophesy over these bones and say to them, ‘O dry bones, HEAR [shema; שְׁמַע ] the word of the Lord.’ ⁵ Thus says the Lord God to these bones, ‘Behold, I will cause ^[c]breath to enter you that you may come to life. ⁶ I will put sinews on you, make flesh grow back on you, cover you with skin and put breath in you that you may come alive; and you will know that I am the Lord.’”

Last Shabbat, I posted a quick note about a global praying of the Shema asked for by a Rabbi on behalf of Judah and the need for the Mashiach to be revealed.  In that post I stated that in addition to being a prayer, the Shema has become a declaration to the physical and spiritual realm around me.  I said,

A personal note on the Shema:  while this is a recitation of Scripture and a declaration of our Elohim (God), this has also become a commandment that I make into the spiritual realm that surrounds me as I declare to All Israel to Shema, HEAR!!  As often as you pray/declare the Shema, remember that you are making a statement to All Israel and the spiritual realm around you as well as our King hears and presses this forward to the ears of those yet deaf!

Note, that in Ezekiel, he commands to the bones, ‘HEAR!!’  (Shema, i.e., Hear and DO!!)  I/we indeed say to the dry bones, ‘Hear the Word of the Lord!!’  All of it…  even the parts pulpits have long said don’t matter or don’t apply!!  Those parts are also the ‘everlasting, unchanging Word of Yehovah!’  The Torah is TRUTH!  (Psalm 119:142)

As a second witness to my thoughts on the Shema as a command to the realms around us, I received an email response to the Shema post from the other day.  I replied asking the author to post her thoughts and Scripture into the comments on that thread, but seeing as she may not have been able to and the thoughts presented pursue me, I thought I’d share without revealing her name.  May this bless you as you read her thoughts followed by a selection from their Siddur.  (Apologies for the formatting difficulties…)

She wrote:

Dear Pete,

I’m pleasantly surprised and interested in your declaring the Shema.  About 2 years ago I believe, Avinu told me to start prophesying it to the dry bones of the whole house of Israel.  I have semi privately been doing so ever since.  This is the first time I have heard someone else say something similar about the Shema.  I will be more public about it now that I have a second witness. Here is a sample of it from our little morning siddur.  The emphisis is on the  ‘shall’ which is in bold print in the siddur but did not transfer over in this message.  I would have sent an attachment if it were possible.
All sing;

Sh’ma Yis’ra’eil YHVH Eloheinu YHVH echad.
Barukh sheim k’vod malkhuto l’olam va’ed.
Hear, Israel, YHVH is our God, YHVH  is one.
Blessed be the Name of His glorious kingdom forever and ever.
(Deuteronomy 6:4-5)
“Behold, the days come,” says YHVH, “that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah      (Jeremiah 31:31)

And you ‘shall’ love YHVH your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might.
And these words that I command you today
‘shall’ be in your heart.
And you ‘shall’ teach them diligently to your children,
and you ‘shall’ speak of them
when you sit at home,
and when you walk along the way,
and when you lie down
and when you rise up.
And you ‘shall’ bind them as a sign on your hand,
and they ‘shall’ be frontlets between your eyes.
And you ‘shall’ write them
on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.  (Deuteronomy 6:6-9)

For it ‘shall’ come to pass that if you carefully
hear and obey the commandments
that I command you today;
To love YHVH Eloheinu and serve Him with
all your heart and all your soul
“Then I will give rain to your land,
the early and the late rains,
that you may gather in your grain,
your wine and your oil.”
“And I will give grass in your fields for your cattle and you ‘shall’ eat and you ‘will’ be satisfied.”
Beware and don’t let your heart be deceived
and you turn and serve other gods and worship them.
The anger of YHVH will blaze against you.
He will close the heavens,
there will be no rain,
the earth will not give you its fullness,
and you will perish quickly
from the good land that YHVH gives you.
Therefore you ‘must’ put the words of YHVH,                                     on your heart and on your soul;
bind them for signs on your hands,                                                        that they may become frontlets between your eyes.                          And you ‘must’ teach them diligently to your children, and speak of them when you sit at home,
and when you walk along the way,
and when you lie down
and when you rise up.
‘Be diligent’ to write them on the
doorposts of your house and on your gates.
By this you will prolong your days
and the days of your children on the land that YHVH promised that He would give to your fathers
for as long as the heavens are above the earth.        (Deuteronomy 11:13-21)

This is not a vain thing for you,
it is your life; and in doing this thing
you shall prolong your days in the land
after you cross over the Jordan to possess it.              (Deuteronomy 32:47)

It is not too difficult for you.
(Deuteronomy. 30:11)

And YHVH spoke to Moses, saying…
Speak to the children of Israel
and say to them
“make for yourselves tzitzit on the
corners of your garment
throughout your generations,
and give each tzitzit a blue thread.
And they shall be tzitzit for you,
and when you look at them
remember all YHVH’s commandments
and do them
and do not follow after
your own heart
and after
your own eyes
which lead you astray.
Make them so that when you look at them
You will remember that you
are a people under covenant.                                                 (Numbers 15:37-41)

And as we walk in obedience to our covenant
we become set apart for Him.

All say;
I YHVH, Eloheinu
took you out of the land of Egypt so that                                              you would not be slaves to them;                                                            I broke the cords of your yoke and I made you go upright.
And it shall come to pass that if you obey My voice, and keep My charge, My commandments,
My statutes, and My laws,                                                                       I will give you peace in the land, and you will take your rest       and no one will give you cause for fear;                                               and I will put an end to all evil beasts in the land,                             and no sword of war will go through your land.
I YHVH, am your God
Obey My voice                                                                                            Keep My charge                                                                                          Do my commandments                                                                             And guard My statutes and My laws.
For it is not a vain thing for you,
because it is your life; and in doing this thing
you shall prolong your days in the land after you cross over the Jordan to possess it.
