A Psalm for today…

I am not sure why, maybe by tradition, but Psalm 27 is THE Psalm for the month of Elul, which ends this afternoon at sunset.  Frankly, until a meeting I had today, the Psalm and its twice-a-day reading during this month completely fell off my radar.  It has been a crazy busy and challenging month as we have gone through so much.  Still, Abba has been good.

Well, a friend pointed me to the Psalm knowing a small bit of my family’s present situation and I sat quietly at the library to read…  WOW!!  Speaks directly to me and where I am right now!

Check it out:

27 The Lord is my light and my salvation;
Whom shall I fear?
The Lord is the defense of my life;
Whom shall I dread?
When evildoers came upon me to devour my flesh,
My adversaries and my enemies, they stumbled and fell.
Though a host encamp against me,
My heart will not fear;
Though war arise against me,
In spite of this I shall be confident.

One thing I have asked from the Lord, that I shall seek:
That I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life,
To behold the beauty of the Lord
And to meditate in His temple.
For in the day of trouble He will conceal me in His tabernacle;
In the secret place of His tent He will hide me;
He will lift me up on a rock.
And now my head will be lifted up above my enemies around me,
And I will offer in His tent sacrifices with shouts of joy;
I will sing, yes, I will sing praises to the Lord.

Hear, O Lord, when I cry with my voice,
And be gracious to me and answer me.
When You said, “Seek My face,” my heart said to You,
“Your face, O Lord, I shall seek.”
Do not hide Your face from me,
Do not turn Your servant away in anger;
You have been my help;
Do not abandon me nor forsake me,
O God of my salvation!
10 For my father and my mother have forsaken me,
But the Lord will take me up.

11 Teach me Your way, O Lord,
And lead me in a level path
Because of my foes.
12 Do not deliver me over to the desire of my adversaries,
For false witnesses have risen against me,
And such as breathe out violence.
13 I would have despaired unless I had believed that I would see the goodness of the Lord
In the land of the living.
14 Wait for the Lord;
Be strong and let your heart take courage;
Yes, wait for the Lord.

We wait.

Patiently.

But, I am reminded and understand so much better that HE has my back and I need not be concerned.

  1. Amen ! He is the ONLY one we can trust. Abba shared a word with us long ago (while we were going through similar circumstances) that ‘flesh is unfaithful’. Sadly, we have found that to be true. But we have also found that HE is ALWAYS faithful.

    1. Sadly Mike, the author of that article has some serious replacement theology issues:

      The blinders fell off of my eyes, and I began to see vital spiritual truth. Elijah restored Israel to true worship: a more pure experience of the faith of their fathers, uncontaminated by heathen influence. My heart was quickened with the realization that God will once again in these last days send the “spirit of Elijah” (the spirit of restoration) to the church, restoring us to a more pure and uncontaminated expression of New Covenant Christianity.

      He is clearly replacing Israel with “the Church” in this paragraph. He also speaks of the “Age of the Law” as if it were something that has already passed away. But since the New Covenant A) isn’t here yet but only inaugurated by the death and resurrection of Messiah, and B) the Law (Torah) remains the conditions of the New Covenant as they were/are with the Old (Sinai) Covenant, “the Law,” as such, doesn’t pass away until Heaven and Earth pass away, which doesn’t happen until after the Messianic Age.

      1. Blessings, brother.

        Been reading about your recent odyssey. I feel for you and am keeping you in prayer. Have had our own rather interesting set of circumstances to walk…

        Shabbat shalom!

    2. Mike,

      Shalom and welcome.

      I do agree with James on his assessment of that paragraph, but I also am encouraged by the growing number of witnesses to re-evaluating our understanding of Scripture in light of the Hebraic roots and historic anti-Semitism that have misled Christian theology. Each of us, the author included, are on a journey and he is sharing part of what Abba has shown him… who knows? Through that article the veil begins to lift for others as they explore the feasts.

      For me and my family, the feasts were the doorway that we came through to begin retooling all we had been taught. The end result has been a glorious fuller understanding of all Scripture and a complete picture that does not ignore or minimize clear passages as my denominational and Seminary training previously taught me.

      Blessings.

  2. I agree with what James wrote ,however ,I see it as the proverbial camel’s nose under the tent. The Feast are a great gateway for Christians who have no or very little understating of the Jewishness of Christianity. James and Pete keep blogging. Also, James just finish the Rebbe and just picked up the Rebbe’s Army.
